No practices for the U16 boys this week.

U16 Girls March Break practice schedule coming soon.

The U14 Boys have invited the Machine Girls to their Friday practice (7:00 PM CLS Pool).

Other than this Friday practice and the two co-ed practices with the U14 Girls on Monday and Wednesday (7:00 PM, CSL pool), the U14 Boys have no other Machine practices this week, but they do have Ligue des Pamplemousse (LDP) games with their regional teams on the weekend. Check Team Snap for details.

The U14 GIrls have invited the U14 boys to their Monday and Wednesday practices this week (7:00 PM at CSL Pool). They also have a co-ed practice with the U14 Boys at their practice on Friday at 7:00 PM at CSL.

Thanks to Robbie and Jenna for coming up with this idea! The teams never get to see each other, and this is a great way to solve this problem.   I say co-ed March Break Machine practices should become a yearly tradition!

Next weekend, the U14 Girls have LDP Games with their respective regional teams. Check Team Snap for details.

Machine - Week Ahead: Feb 26-Mar 4

Last week, there were tryouts for Équipe Québec for U16 Boys and Girls; LCQ games for U14 Boys at Claude Robillard, and no tournaments for either of the girl’s teams, although the U14 Girls had an inspirational speaker at their Tuesday practice who talked about elite sports, academics and setting personal goals.

The Week Ahead

Next week, regular practices for all teams and no games. However, for boys and girls born between 2002-2006, there’s Camp Espoir on Saturday and Sunday.

Machine - The Week Ahead: Jan 29 - Feb 4

A great weekend in Toronto last week for the U16 Boys (three games, 3 wins, including a goalie goal (ouch!) by the Machine in the dying moments of the game.

Also, it was the first tournament for some of our new U16 boys, all called up from U14: Vladyslav Shabalin, Yann Costache, Luc Bojorquez, Philip Costache and Évrard Pérès. Congratulations boys!

The U14 Girls did well too, walking away with the silver medal from the CW International tournament in Ottawa. Great job, girls!

No tournaments for any teams this weekend. After a busy month, it’s a well-deserved rest for everyone, although it’s still practice as usual for all the teams.

Coach Rob on Eating and Drinking at Tournments

Coach Rob (U14 Machine Girl’s assistant coach) on eating and drinking before and during tournaments:

Pre-Tournament Diet

“Eat lots of food the night before the tournament and drink an abnormal amount of water. My old pre-tournament meal of choice was about one pound of tortellini with two chicken breasts, a side of mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts then apples dipped in honey for dessert.”

Snacks During Tournaments

“During tournaments, snacks are your best friend. Fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts, low-fat dairy, etc. I used to go with almonds, apples and oranges, bananas, sweet potatoes, granola bars, peanut butter sandwiches, etc.”

Hydration, Hydration, Hydration

Now most important! HYDRATION! You should all be drinking at least 5 to 10 litres of water at the tournament each day. Five is the absolute minimum!!! I cannot stress this enough.

I have personally seen athletes at both the minor and professional levels fall apart simply because of a lack of hydration and nutrition during sports. It doesn’t take long!

Your bodies are machines, we need to treat them as such!

Final advice to be in top shape
Go to bed early and wake up early!

Canadiens Tickets Raffle Winner

On December 18, 2017, the Machine raffled a pair of tickets to see a Montreal Canadiens hockey game. Ms. Carolanne Thibault was the lucky winner!

We want to thank everyone who participated in our fundraising campaign. The money raised will go towards tournament fees.

Machines Have Fans in Moldova, Finland and Austria!

In the last month, the Montreal Machine website had 1,250 visitors from countries around the world, including Moldova, Finland and Austria… as well as the United States, Peru and Romania (no surprises there!).

So, send the link to the website to everyone you know overseas, and let’s see if we can get some more countries on our list.

For links to send to people, you can send them Photo Pages (there’s one for each team), or even this very “Latest News” post.

Machine’s U16 Boys Smoking Hot Statistics

For some fun reading, be sure to visit the statistics pages on the Water Polo Canada website.

Players Statistics
Team Standings

After four games played in the 2017-18 season, the Montreal Machine’s U16 Boys team has the two top goalies in the Eastern Conference: #1 is Gavin Williams (with a 3.43 average goals against per game), and #2 is Alex Zaharkevich (his GAA is 4.80).

For U16 players, Leno Salamon is #1 (33 goals in 4 games), with Anthony Lightbown (15 goals in 4 games) and Islam Ainseba (12 goals in 4 games) not too far behind.

Then, If you click on to page 2, Liam Masley is doing well (7 goals in 4 games), followed by Sam Hachem (6 goals in 4 games) and …. unbelievably… our goalie Alexander Zaharkevich (6 goals in 4 games).

Where are the Mavericks?

This all sounds fantastic, right? But wait…. where are the Mavericks?

When you check the Team Standings page for the Eastern Conference, you’ll notice that the Mavericks have only played one game this season (which they won), while the Machines have already played 4.

So be sure to check back soon and often as all these statistics will change once the Mavericks start playing.

Kayak Water Polo - Only in the Yukon!

Kayak Water Polo - what a great idea. Only in the Yukon!

The net is way up in the air, the goalie uses his paddle to whack the ball out of the way, and players occasionally do barrel rolls underwater as they chase the ball.  Looks fun!
